Bar Harbor By the Sea
By JOHN J. FRIEND, BANGOR, MAINE
1      The day was drawing to its close,
The sea was calm, the storm was o'er. The pleasure yachts they sought repose,
And stretched along from shore to shore; And as I gazed upon that scene,
And saw God's mighty works that day, The sunlight cast its golden beams,
On those grand hills far o'er the bay.
2      Bar Harbor, how I love thy hills,
And valleys too so dear to me, Where first I saw the light of day
In that little village by the sea; And when at eve I sought repose,
Down by that shore so dear to me, I watched the moon rise in the east,
And cast its bright light o'er the sea.
3      And looking at Green Mountain there,
In silent majesty arose, To meet again the friends we love
Who come once more to seek repose; Here to regain their wasted strength
And rest that tired, weary brain, I fm speaking of an Island now,
Bar Harbor, down in dear old Maine.
